Effective Young's Modulus of Orthotropic Laminate with Different Orientation Angles of Unidirectional Laminas

There are many types of prefabricated reinforcing glass and carbon mats of various orientation schemes e.g. (0/90/45)_n. Some orientation angles are critical, at which longitudinal and transverse Young's moduli reach their minimum. In case of UD glass fibers reinforced laminates this critical orientation angle is about 50° with respect to the loading direction. To keep both Young's moduli at satisfactory level the applied reinforcement orientation angles must differ from the critical one. This paper presents the calculation method of longitudinal and transverse effective Young's moduli of orthotropic laminate with two different orientation angles of UD glass fiber reinforcement. The effect of mutual stiffening of oriented laminas has been taken into account.
