The hemostasis laboratory at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is involved primarily in the investigation of inherited bleeding disorders at the functional, biochemical, and genetic levels. Most of these conditions are inherited, intrinsic platelet disorders that are not particularly common but should be on a veterinarian's differential list in cases of clinical bleeding where thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, and von Willebrand's disease have been ruled out. Our laboratory also hasdone research into the genetic basis for some coagulation disorders (hemophilia). The list of disorders below is not an all-inclusive list but highlights the conditions that will be discussed.
