Major milk protein Casein (CAS) is chemically modified (grafting) using Acrylamide monomer by Microwave Assisted technique. The grafting of the poly (Acrylamide) (PAM) chains on the backbone of Casein is confirmed through the various physicochemical studies. The Intrinsic viscosity and Number Average Molecular Weight of Casein appreciably improved on grafting of poly (Acrylamide) chains. Further, flocculation efficacy of the graft copolymer is optimized in coal fine suspension and the optimized grade is studied in municipal wastewater through Jar test procedure, toward possible application as flocculant for wastewater treatment.
