Saving electricity in an induction motor can be done by compensating for reactive power so that the power factor can be increased. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of the MERS as a reactive power compensator in an induction motor. The method used is designing a reactive power compensator using a magnetic energy recovery switch. Before designing a reactive power compensator, simulation is used as a reference in the design of the reactive power compensator. The result of the application of MERS as a reactive power compensator is to increase the power factor to 0.75 from the previous 0.70.
