A coccygeal epidural block provides anesthesia/analgesia to the perineum, penis, urethra, colon and anus without loss of motor function to the hindlimbs.Clinical uses include facilitation of urinary catheter placement in cats with urethral obstruction, cystoscopy and surgical procedures such as perineal urethrostomy, tail amputation, anal sacculectomy, perineal hernia repair.Advantages include: effective local anesthesia/analgesia, simple and straightforward technique with less chance of complications or side effects than LS epidural.
