· Two aluminum door-in-white variants designed and costed: > 5x-6x mixed alloy, with HS 6x SIB. Joining mainly with RSW & ARPLAS. > 6x uni alloy with 7x SIB. Joining with RLW and RSW. · The 6x concept used more expensive grades but less material in total (and eliminated one part). This paid for the more expensive materials. · The material cost of aluminum is partially offset by the closed loop recycling strategy. · Achieved → $5 per kg saved; major driver is similar joining cost > Convert SPR to RSW or ARPLAS > Laser weld is extremely cost effective if RLW allows optimal utilization · Further reductions are presently being explored > More joining optimization, higher volumes → stretch goal?
