Joint welds are conventional methods for connecting structural elements. Another alternative method is the mechanical joining of reinforcing bars. The paper presents the study on the connection of reinforcing bars with muff couplings under conditions of the stress field tension, deformation diagram and structure, phase composition, and internal stresses of reinforcement bars of the material St20 in the initial state and after deformation effects. Structural studies of the deformation effect on structural and phase states of the material St20 reinforcement bars with the use of electron microscopy have allowed revealing the fact that the deformation of 5% leads to formation of micro-cracks, which is a harbinger of the reinforcing steel destruction.
