U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Grand Coulee Third Power Plant: Modernization Gets a Head Start

The United States Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) is in the process of developing plans and specifications for the modernization of Grand Coulee generating units G19-21. These 690 MW Francis turbine – generator units were the first three units constructed in the Grand Coulee Third Power Plant, and were the worlds’ largest and highest capacity hydroelectric units at the time of their construction. They have been in service for more than 40 years. There have been no major rehabilitations performed on these three generating units since they were installed.
