The sorption behavior of nitrification inhibitor 3,4-Dimethylpyrazole Phosphate (DMPP) on four different types of soil (phaeozem, burozem, red soil and organic matter-removed soil) was researched with a batch-equilibration procedure and the influence of pH, Cu(II) and Cd(II) was meanwhile researched. The sorption amount (C_s) of DMPP on 4 soils exhibited phaeozem> burozem> red soil> organic matter-removed soil, indicating that the sorption of DMPP on soil was mainly controlled by soil organic matter content and CEC. With the increase of pH, the C_s of DMPP decreased when the system pH ranged from 2 to 4.5 or 9 to 12, while unaffected when the pH ranged from 4.5 to 9. The addition of heavy metal cation (Cu~(2+) or Cd~(2+)) depressed the sorption of DMPP on soils due to the competitive effect.
