Important data on volumetric efficiency for a spark ignition engine can be offered by CFD analyses on intake process. Thus, the combustion quality can be estimated, which has to be verified by experimental research, on a test stand. The engine subjected to testing is a research gasoline single cylinder engine located at the Research Institute of Transilvania University of Brasov and used for thermodynamic tests. In order to compare the results obtained during simulation with the measurements on the running engine, the combustion chamber was accurately reconstructed using high end touch probe 3D scanning technology. The preliminary results obtained provide information on the flow phenomena through the intake port. Knocking during testing stratified mixture formation was under control, with the help of knocking sensors which are useful for determining the critical spark timing.
