An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of irrigation frequency on crop productivity and economic benefit of oasis jerusalem artichoke in an arid environment. The results showed that low irrigation frequency significantly (p < 0.05) decreased Jerusalem artichoke tuber yield. However, tuber yield of jerusalem artichoke was significantly improved by 38.0%~82.1% in irrigated plots than those not irrigated. Accordingly, net income performance of jerusalem artichoke was similar to tuber yield under various irrigation frequency. In comparison with no irrigation plots, 51.0% to 108.9% of net income was significantly improved in irrigated crops. Besides, the maximum IWUE of jerusalem artichoke was marked in crops irrigated only once during the whole growing season while the minimum marked in those with four times of irrigation. Compared to latter, 31.4%~230.5% of IWUE was significantly increased in other irrigated plots. Therefore, irrigation frequency of twice for crops with the same water supply of 600 m~3 ? ha~(-1) respectively at seedling and budding could be applied to effectively improve jerusalem artichoke tuber yield, economic benefit and IWUE in an arid environment.
