CHEMISTRY CALCULATIONS: A NECCESSARY EVIL OR AN IMPORTANT PART OF CHEMISTRY EDUCATION?

An integral part of Chemistry education - calculations is a topic of the biggest STEM intersection between Chemistry and Mathematics. Despite calculations in elementary and secondary school Chemistry are mostly based on elementary mathematic principles, students usually find them difficult. According to a survey, Czech students (N=595) describe the topic as difficult and demotivating. The paper is focused on the results of this survey, with suggestion of possible approaches toward education of this educational topic.
