THE EFFECTS OF THE SOUND BOX CHOIR STALLS ON THE ACOUSTICS OF THE CHURCH OF THE CERTOSA OF SAN MARTINO IN NAPLES

The Church of the Certosa di San Martino (Naples) was built in the XVI century and is characterized by the presence of an elliptical sound box built under the floor of the choir. The sound box was designed to resolve the effects of the weakening of the chants following the opening of some large windows. This paper presents the results of acoustic measurements carried out in the church to evaluate the effects of the presence of the sound box. There was a variation in the acoustic parameters only in the choir area.
