Comparison of culture and PCR from oral fluids for the detection of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae

The ease of collection and population-base sampling structure provided by oral fluid have made it a preferred diagnostic sample for many infectious agents among practitioners.The effectiveness of oral fluids to detect enteric pathogens such as Lawsonia intracellularis by PCR has been shown.' It was also shown that oral fluid could be used to diagnose clinical swine dysentery.2 Our objective was to compare the sensitivity of culture and PCR to detect Brackyspira hyodysenteriae in oral fluids.
