Forum - Global Air Filtration Test Protocols and Their Effects on Filter Designs

Filter manufacturers are challenged with designing filters for both general market applications, and very specific, well-defined applications. Global standards for filter testing reflect different ideas on how to test filters for various applications. As a result, the air filtration industry has conflicting testing protocols which can challenge a design engineer. Comparisons of ASHRAE 52.2:2012, EN-779:2012, EN1822:2009 and the forthcoming ISO 16890 and ISO 29461-1 standards will be discussed.
