A lossy motion estimation algorithm using efficient comparison criterion for video coding

In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm for block matching in motion estimation with efficient error comparison criterion. With calculated initial distortion, we can fastly remove impossible candidates of motion vectors. We use more efficient comparison condition than the conventional loss less methods and their modified algorithms. We use a complementary weight factor in error comparison condition and then get better prediction image compared NPDE method. The proposed algorithm reduces more computational amount than the conventional PDE algorithm and gets better prediction quality than NPDE algorithm. The proposed algorithm would be applied to the applications for real-time video encoding.
