Arsenic contamination manifests various health hazards related to respiratory, skin, gastrointestinal, liver, cardiovascular, nervous system, pregnancy outcome, diabetes, etc. Previous studies showed arsenic poisoning as a risk factor of pregnancy related complications. The present study identifies a potential link between in-utero arsenic exposure and increased mortality rate among their children. A cohort study was undertaken to follow-up the children until they were five years old. Children who were born to 11,414 pregnant women between 2002 and 2004 were included in the follow-up and analyzed. According to the research findings, children who have been exposed to arsenic in-utero could be at an increased risk of drowning due to the effect that it can have on their physical behavior. Reduction of arsenic exposure is required in countries where groundwater arsenic concentrations are high threatening serious public health.
