There is an important role for international non-governmental organisations such as the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in supporting the implementation of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) animal welfare standards. This paper discusses WSPA's contribution to the implementation of OIE standards and provides several recent and practical examples of this valuable collaboration.
