CdS nanoparticles were synthesized using Desulfovibrio desulfuricans at room temperature and atmospheric pressure in a single-step process. The kinetics of the biosynthesis of cadmium sulfide and the cellular distribution of cadmium were also studied. The microstructure of the CdS nanoparticles was characterized by means of SEM, HRTEM, XRD and EDS. The particles are essentially granular, and the particles size is in the range of approximately 8-10 nm. The transformation rate of CdS nanoparticles was 94.6% after 96 h. The mechanism study showed that CdS nanoparticles can be produced inside the cells and released into solution. In the cells, cadmium was most highly concentrated in the membrane, followed by the cell wall concentration and the cytoplasm.
