Energy costs continue to increase. Sustainability and GHG reduction goals. Compliance requirements (e.g. Joint Commission in Healthcare). Quality & process reliability (e.g. process capability in Pharma). Maintenance departments are frequently understaffed. "Big Data" - building systems, manufacturing processes and controls are complex and they generate huge amounts of data. 80% of buildings are never commissioned. Operating personnel lack the training and/or skills to operate today's complex systems. Buildings are "value engineered" for low first cost, not ongoing operating cost. Facilities managers are often measured on comfort or uptime, not energy or operating costs.
