Peritoneal Dialysis for Management of Patients with Chronic Heart Failure and Cardiorenal Syndrome

Heart failure (HF) remains the most common reason for hospital admission in patients older than 65, with a total cost of $35-60 billion per year in US alone (1). The currently available therapeutic modalities for HF do not seem yet to be producing optimal results; the 30-day readmission rate remains as high as 27%, the highest among all medical conditions (2). There have been tremendous efforts at finding newer therapeutic options with optimal efficacy and safety profiles, albeit without major success (3).
