The special session "Advances and Tradition in Soliton Theory" announced and organized within AMiTaNS'17 has been dedicated to Professor Vladimir Gerdjikov on the occasion of his 70th birthday. During his career Vladimir made remarkable contributions in the areas of integrable nonlinear partial differential equations, soliton theory, quantum integrable systems, discrete integrable systems and applications of the nonlinear models.
