Vulnerability, often confused with risk, raises problems of definition. As researchers and practitioners have described numerous vulnerable groups, classification of these groups as vulnerable requires answers to several questions: How are vulnerable groups categorized and by whom? What relationship do social group categories have with psychosocial or psychological vulnerability? What are the processes that make a certain social group more vulnerable to psychosocial and mental health problems? Research and intervention targeting vulnerable groups raise also ethical debate aiming especially not to stigmatize people so qualified.
