Ring-opening metathesis polymerization has been used extensively to create materials with varying properties for diverse applications, including drug delivery, antibacterial agents, and tissue engineering. In this study, we synthesized three norbornene based ROM polymers from 5-norbornene-2-carboxylic acid with molecular weights ranging from 5,000 to 5,000,000 g/mol. Few reports have described very high molecular weight norbornene polymers. The side-chain and backbone of the polymers were modified and analyzed. Understanding the properties of this system as a function of their thermal, physical, and mechanical characteristics will lead to new developments and potential applications.
