A rapidly developing resource industy that is constantly building new infrastructure in remote locations, the extensive use of ice roads in winter, and thick and extensive muskeg cover in Northern and Western Canada are among the circumstances that require the use of ground penetrating radar (GPR) to assist in addressing near surface geotechnical challenges. This paper will describe four case studies where GPR surveys provided essential and quantitative information in remote situations where extensive or sufficient intrusive information was simply impossible to acquire.
