High-strength steel reinforced concrete (HSRC) structure refers to Steel Reinforced Concrete (SRC) structure using high-strength steel. So far, the mechanical behaviours of SRC columns have been studied comprehensively. However, research on the HSRC column is still limited. This paper presents experimental and numerical studies on the mechanical performance of axially compressed HSRC column using Q460 high strength steel. Failure modes were observed. Load-displacement and load-strain curves have been produced. The experimental result shows that the high-strength steel section enables the column with good ductility. Thereafter, a numerical model has been established for simulating the experiments based on ABAQUS, adopting Kent-Scott-Park model for constitutive relation of concrete to consider the confined effect from spiral stirrup reinforcement. The numerical result fits the test data well, which validated the effectiveness of the built model.
