The objective of this paper is to understand the behaviour of the staggered arrangement of braces as compared to the single stack arrangement, when subjected to design-basis earthquake ground motions. This study uses a combination of Split-X and Chevron configurations to form the staggered configuration of the brace. Nonlinear dynamic and static analyses of the staggered plane frame has been carried out using Perform-3D software. The result also discusses the comparison of weight of the structure and base reactions for the staggered and the single stack configurations. The amount of material consumed in beams, columns and brace is found to be lower by using staggered arrangement of braces in comparison to single stack arrangement of braces in order to have a similar seismic response.
