In order to ensure the safety of trains, the axle temperature monitoring system faces higher demands with the improving speed of trains. A new axis temperature monitoring system is proposed based on the colorimetry temperature measurement method. This system uses the IR970 infrared camera as the testing center and images are acquired through the image acquisition card drived by the Labview program. The formula of colorimetry temperature measurement is deduced after the relationship between CCD image signal and radiation intensity is analysed. Three kinds of filter method are compared in the image preprocessing. Two-peak method and the maximum variance peaks automatically taking threshold value are used in image segmentation after the train axle infrared image histogram is investigated. At last, the calculation method of image temperature field is improved to compute the axle temperature. The experiments of axle temperature monitoring prove that the system is feasible and accurate to be used in online and non-contact temperature detection.
