SOME CONSIDERATIONS ON THE ASSESSMENT OF RISK TO PUBLIC SAFETY IN THE PRACTICE OF BUCHAREST PROBATION SERVICE

Taking into account that the probationer's risk assessment represents a sine qua non condition for a high quality intervention in the rehabilitation, accurate risk assessment is a necessity. When we talk about risk we consider its three dimensions: risk of reoffend, risk for public safety and risk of self -harm/ suicide. If the assessment of the risk of reoffend and the risk of self -harm/suicide some developments have been made in practice, the same cannot be said about the assessment of risk for public safety. In these circumstances, given a number of practical issues observed in the Probation Service nearby Bucharest Tribunal, in this paper we seek to grasp how to perform the assessment of this risk, but also to provide a set of useful items, which can be considered as they were found in the literature from countries with a tradition of probation, a special attention been focused on the assessment of juvenile delinquents.
