THE FRENCH CALL FOR TENDER: A WAY TO FACILITATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF OFFSHORE WIND FARMS?

To reach the level of electricity production using renewable energies set by European objectives, the French Government in 2009 undertook to commission 6000 MW by 2020 by developing offshore installations. In 2011, the French Government therefore decided to launch a Call for Tender identifying five areas with total capacity of 3000 MW, expected to be commissioned in 2020. Bids are accepted until 11 January 2012. Compared to techniques used in other European countries, this is an innovative way of encouragement for establishing French offshore sector.
