Building energy consumption continues to grow in both developing and developed countries despite numerous methods and approaches being developed to address the problem, and substantial part of this problem is attributed to residential energy consumption. The research on sustainable envelope using building materials to minimize residential building energy consumption is underway. This is because, relying on the current methods of reducing energy consumption to achieve sustainable energy efficiency in residential building, is not sufficient to handle the current problem. However, little or no concern has been given to the incorporation of sustainability into the passive approach of reducing energy consumption. The main objective of this paper is to develop a multi criteria framework for modeling the sustainable performance of residential building envelope that can significantly reduce building energy consumption by considering all major contributing criteria. This involved using questionnaire technique to identify essential performance criteria for residential building envelope sustainable energy performance appraisal.
