The Tightrope (TR) technique was introduced to try and palliate the limitations of current cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) repair techniques including invasiveness, suboptimal biomechanical properties, cost and difficulty. The TR is an extracapsular repair designed to replace the function of the CCL, similar to the lateral fabellar suture (LFS). The main proposed advantage of the TR repair over the LFS consists of superior biomechanical properties, resulting from bone anchorage and isometric placement of a stronger material. It is suggested to be less invasive with the use of a button and toggle system. The procedure requires no specialized equipment and was designed for wide application in private practices.
