The transfer of new carbon capture technologies from academia to industry will be cost driven. It is imperative to develop carbon dioxide capture strategies that are efficient from relatively small to large scale. Ultimately, we seek technologies that provide the maximum capture capacity and can be fitted to existing power plants with the minimum capital cost and energy requirement. There have been many approaches to address this issue – physical and chemical absorption using solvents, swing adsorption with MOF's, zeolites, membrane technology and chemical looping to name a few.
