BASF ELASTOLLAN~R TPU ALLOYS FOR HOSE AND TUBE APPLICATIONS

Thermoplastic Urethanes (TPUs) serve a variety of markets providing excellent abrasion resistance, excellent mechanical properties, high and low temperature properties and outstanding resistance to many chemicals. In the hose and tube market, TPUs are used as a jacketing and core tubing due to their durability, cut resistance, abrasion resistance and kink resistance for applications including sewer hoses, industrial rig bundles and HVAC hoses.The key properties of TPU allow hose and tube manufactures to expand product lines and to create alternative hose constructions to better the performance and functionality of their products. Recent developments have been made to further improve the burst pressure ratings of TPU in hose and tube applications which allow TPU to more effectively compete against other thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) and polyamides.The new series of Elastollan TPU Alloy materials have improved E-Modulus values and thermal stability while continuing to maintain other key mechanical properties. These ether based translucent materials can be processed by both extrusion and injection molding and have proved themselves to be excellent for demanding hose and tube applications such as air brake tubing, pressurized water hoses and pneumatic tubing.
