Recently, many research works have been carried out to improve the electrode for electrochemical capacitor in order to increase the capacitance of electrochemical capacitors. It has been reported that the addition of a hetero element such as N, P, etc., is effective for improving the capacitance [1, 2]. Flame-retardants are used for the prevention of fire spread. Most of the flame-retardants contain hetero atoms such as N, P, and S in its chemical structure. Starch has a chemical structure similar to cellulose. If this flame-retardant treatment is effective for the reforming of a carbon material, it can be used as a new approach to synthesizing the electrodes for electrochemical capacitors. In this study, we report that the performance of carbon materials derived from starch mixed with flame-retardant as electrochemical capacitor.
