Poolside Fuel Inspection Experience and Development at NFI

Nuclear Fuel Industries, LTD. (NFI) has developed poolside fuel inspection devices for evaluating fuel performance and confirming the integrity of spent fuels. To meet customers' varying inspection needs, NFI has developed two such devices for conducting poolside fuel inspections. An automatic scanning inspection device is equipped with measuring tools that perform continuous measurements along the axial direction of the fuel assembly and can also be maneuvered in three dimensions. A manual pole inspection device consists of a pole equipped with a measuring tool at the pole head. The instrument is manually positioned at locations on the fuel assembly. This paper presents the detailed concepts for these two types of devices usedforpoolsidefuel inspections.
