In a copper based Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) the austenitic phase is measured using two synchrotron X-ray diffraction methods during the mechanically induced martensite phase transformation (superelasticity cycle). At the meso and micro scale a large number of austenitic domains are created and the evolutions of the orientations of these small austenitic domains are observed. During the martensitic transformation, the number and the orientation dispersions of the austenitic domains are increasing according to the applied stress. Reverse rotations are observed during unloading.
