The paper describes a multi-band Distributed VCO topology suitable for multi-standard transceivers. This topology gives an optimum trade off among the multi-band capability and phase noise requirements. After a brief presentation of the DVCO operations a detailed analysis of the oscillation conditions for the topology is presented leading to general expressions for the amplitude and frequency of oscillation. A prototype with a measured 21.2% tuning range validates the theory.
