How do Leader's Emotional Display and Follower's Emotional Reactions Affect Follower's Creativity and Task Performance?: ICT Industry Case in South Korea

As is often the case, leaders exchange emotional state with followers when they work together in the same teams and organizations. Such emotional exchange was described in the name of emotional contagion in literature. In literature in the field of management, many researchers proposed huge number of empirical results explaining the effects of emotional contagion and emotional reactions on task performance. However, there still exists a research void in the issue about how much leader's display of positive and negative emotions may affect follower's emotional reactions, and follower's creativity and task performance in the end. To fill such research void, we propose a novel type of research model in which six constructs representing leader's emotional display, follower's emotional reactions, and follower's creativity and task performance are incorporated. On the basis of 50 teams in the three major ICT companies in South Korea, we garnered 256 valid questionnaire dataset. PLS analysis of the dataset revealed promising results such that follower's creativity and task performance are significantly explained by leader's emotional display and follower's emotional reactions.
