Traditionally a south facing pitched roof is considered as the best location for solar energy collector installation in the northern hemisphere in order to obtain the maximum output. But in real situations, many buildings may not have this optimal roof orientation which often discourages the otherwise motivated individuals to discard their interest in owning a solar energy device. In this context, actual performance data from identical solar collectors installed at different orientations is of importance to arrive at a logical and informed decision on system selection. Sunpowered Energy Systems Ltd came across a family that was interested to have identical solar photovoltaic systems on the south, east and west roof of their house. It was all the more fortunate that the individual was more than happy to collect performance data on a regular basis and make it available for this exercise.
