Databases need to be managed to ensure integrity, accessibility and performance. Database management systems (DBMS) take on this role under the control of database administrators (DBA). Databases are commonly distributed across multiple hardware platforms to provide scalability and resilience, requiring administration across servers and physical locations. This paper evaluates a methodology that supports database autonomy, presenting higher level 'command and control' to the Database Administrator. A process of monitoring, reporting and resolving a database condition is used, employing functions within Microsoft SQL Server and the methodology of Complex Organic Distributed Architecture (CODA).
