1. A study has been performed to compare the power required in a data center to transfer heat generated by two high performance clusters: (1). One that is air cooled (traditional; 100% to air) (2). One that is water cooled (80% of the heat load to water; 20% to air) 2. The comparison is done on an equal computing performance basis 3. The amount of power required for the water cooled cluster is 45% lower than that for the air cooled cluster 4. Taken to the limit; the amount of power required to cool a 100% water cooled cluster utilizing a water side economizer is more than 90% lower than that for the air cooled cluster.
