This paper discusses scenarios for using high-temperature nuclear energy from the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) to cleanly generate hydrogen from water using the Hybrid Sulfur Process (HyS) to serve as feedstock for proposed industrial applications such as coal-to-liquids (CTL) and coal-to-gas (CTG) processes to produce synthetic liquid fuels as well as applications in the steel industry. The availability of clean hydrogen holds several benefits to industry, notably a reduced environmental footprint in the transport- and industrial sector as well as extension of carbon resources and improved security of supply.
