Development of Chrome Free Primer for Construction Use

Pre-coated metal (PCM) for construction materials, such as roofing and siding, have been widely used pre-treatment and primer including hexavalent chromium, due to the long term durability of corrosion resistance. But the establishment of chrome-free systems is demanded strongly at the point of environments nowadays. We are developing the epoxy resin-based primer by replacing chromate pigments to chrome free pigments for 55%Al-Zn steel (Galvalume). To evaluate the long term corrosion resistance of chrome free primer, we are testing by outdoor exposure at Okinawa, and accelerated corrosion test comparing with chrome primer. Examination results of the electrochemical measurement are also reported.
