In order to attain large areal density narrow track recording is crucial for perpendicular magnetic recording. The track density was limited by track edge noise, write fringing and erase band formation etc, the track edge characteristics should be examined well. As transition jitter caused by magnetic cluster limits maximum linear density, large clusters at track edges are thought to prevent the density increase.
