A New Chapter in Roll Surface Texturing: The Pomini Digital Texturing Technology

For many decades, roll surfaces have been textured to achieve uniform roughness value or a specific peak count, avoiding discernible patterns on the surface. For the last 40 years, the leading technology has been electro-discharge texturing (EDT); its advantages have been thoroughly exploited and its limits reached. This paper introduces the principles of a new technology called PDT - Pomini Digital Texturing; explains its practical application; presents data from tests and references proving its advantages in terms of quality, productivity, higher safety level and reduced environmental footprint; and provides a glimpse into the future, with applications otherwise impossible for EDT technology.
