LNG Fire Fighting at Texas AM: Training and Research

The Brayton Fire Training School at Texas A&M has been training LNG fire fighters for over 25 years. The older LNG area has recently been replaced with new facilities for LNG fire fighting and vapor control training, with the first LNG training sessions conducted in October. The LNG area features an ability to demonstrate the proper use of various fire mitigation apparatus, including dry chemical, foam and vapor control systems. Various LNG Fire research and development projects that benefit from the capability of actual LNG fire conditions, include: Testing and demonstration of gas detection equipment and fire thermal radiation sensors; Updating foam application rate information for system designers, particularly with all the new formulation foams now available; Development and validation of long trench consequence models for vapor dispersion and fire scenarios; Preliminary tests of experimental instrumentation systems for the proposed industry sponsored large scale LNG fires tests. Experimental design ideas are underway.
