IMPACT OF WASTEWATER DISCHARGE ON WATER QUALITY AND CHALLENGE IN DRINKING WATER TREATMENT

The occurrence of emerging organic contaminants in a variety of water matrices has been reported in many areas around the world and it raises concerns about the source, fate and control of these contaminants. Pharmaceuticals and endocrine disruptors are among such contaminants that are now under extensive investigations. Wastewater discharge is recognized as the primary source of these contaminants. As a result, it is of particular interest as to the environmental behavior of these contaminants in the receiving water body and the associated impact on drinking water facilities and on human health.
