HOW SUSTAINABLE IS YOUR WATER TESTING METHOD?

Sustainability of clean water is an issue of global concern leading to new advances in instrumentation, quantification and characterization of water contaminants. But in many instances, the analytical methods used for water monitoring and testing are not very sustainable or “green”, often using hazardous solvents and reagents and generating large quantities of waste. The American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Institute has partnered with the Methods and Data Comparability Board to evaluate analytical methods for greenness, using the methods in the National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI; www.nemi.gov).
