Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)continue to be relevant toxic compounds.In urban areas,historical land uses such as wood treating operations and manufactured gas plants(MGP)created PAH hotspots consisting of creosote and coal tar but also include current inputs from petroleum spills and leaks,urban runoff and fires.Generally,soil sediments are analyzed to determine historical contamination sources and grab samples help identify current water contamination.
